How to crochet a beautiful little Christmas star?
Lees hier de Nederlandse versie!
Christmas, it’s time to think about decorating the Christmas tree! And why not make your own Christmas decorations? I have never done it myself, … I’ve wanted to do it for so long, make pendants for the tree myself. Last year I made LED tealights, but I was too late to decorate our tree with them. So this time I started beating earlier, I already had an idea in my head. I wanted to do something with little stars.
The process of creation started! The first stars were not good enough, certainly not tight enough, the arms curled up a lot more easily. That is how I came up with the idea of using paper thread to stretch the arms with it. The paper thread around the star also had an advantage I never thought of! A loop to hook on the tree was a matter of course!
And of course it is always a discussion with my family members about what is and what is not allowed in the tree. Also this time! Exciting whether the pendants will be approved this time. And yes, this time we all found a deal together! The stars are approved, they are allowed in the tree, but alternated with ‘real’ Christmas baubles. I naturally think that is a good idea. Fantastic!
Now we have to choose colors. I have made different colors and now we have to decided which color is allowed in the tree, I am curious, as soon as the tree is ready, I put a photo on it and you can immediately see what color it has become!
Here is the pattern so you can also start with decorating your home with these little stars!
Material
- light cotton such as Drops Safran, 160 cm (2g), ideal if you have some leftovers! This is a great tip to use up your leftover yarn as referred in the title of this post!
- hook nr 4
- paper yarn 40 cm

Gauge
22 stitches in a row and 25 rows makes a square of 10 by 10 cm

Stitches
- magical ring
- single crochet
- half treble crochet
- treble crochet
- double treble crochet
- slip stitch
- picot (two chains and a slip stitch back in the first chain)
Pattern
Step 1 : the base ring and the first round
Option a : with a magical ring
I made a foto tutorial of how you can make a magical ring here.

Option b: with chains
If you are not familiar with a magic ring, it is also possible to start with a chain of 10 stitches. Close the chain with a loose stitch. Then start with 1 chain and make 20 simple crochets in the ring. Finish with a slip stitch. This way you get almost the same base ring.
Step 2 : the arms of the star, secund round
In this step we crochet the first arm of the star.
Crochet 7 chains. Make a picot, this is a slip stitch in the 6th chain.
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201120_124853.jpg)
Crochet a single crochet in the 5th chain, followed by an half treble crochet, a treble crochet and a double treble crochet.

Now we have to attach the arm on the base ring of the star. Do this with a single crochet on the 4th stitch of the ring. You have to skip 3 stitches.

Crochet again 7 chains and repeat the same as for the first arm of the star. After finishing the arm, again skip 3 stitches and attach the arm with a single crochet on the base ring.
Do this 3 more times!

Close this round with a slip stich on the first single crochet of this round.

Step 3, third round
Take the paper yarn and cut 40 cm from the ball, a short thread is easier to work with.
Start with 5 single crochets, make them between the chains of the previous round. The 5th on the picot of the previous round.
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201121_092013.jpg)
Take the paper yarn and make a single crochet on it.
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201121_092338.jpg)
Crochet a single crochet again in the picot of the previous round
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201121_092619.jpg)
Crochet 4 single crochets in the next 4 stitches of the previous round.
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201121_092836.jpg)
Do this 4 more times. Start always with the first single crochet in the first gap of the arm.
![](https://handmaderosebag.be/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/20201121_093100.jpg)
Close the round with a slip stitch on the first single crochet of this round. End the star and cut the yarn.

Finishing touch
Tuck first in the threads.
Pull the star further over the yarn, so the arms are beautiful divided, make an almost perfect circle. Then close the ring and make a loop so you can hang the star!
